Who We Are

There are few times in our lives when we find the opportunity to start something new. The Brethren of the Harbour was started by a group of friends in a bar one cold winter evening, with the intention of enjoying the coming boating season together, and traveling the waters. Over time, the group has grown and eventually we decided to make this a more formal organization and actually start a yacht club! So here we are, and we are always looking to grow our ranks, so join us at one of our many events!

“Brethren come let us meet and travel the waters!”

About Our Name

The Brethren of the Harbour is named after an old pirate syndicate called the Brethren of the Coast. The Brethren or Brethren of the Coast were a loose coalition of pirates and privateers commonly known as buccaneers and active in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries in the Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico.

Based primarily on the island of Tortuga off the coast of Haiti and in the city of Port Royal on the island of Jamaica, the original Brethren were mostly French and British, but their ranks were joined by other adventurers of various nationalities including Spaniards, and African sailors, as well as escaped slaves and outlaws of various sovereigns.

The Brethren of the Coast had both men and women members from all walks of life, and was a very successful organization in the Golden Age of Piracy.
